About the book

Dupatta Podunga Thozhi (Friend, please put on Dupatta*) is a compilation of 30 essays published in the Her Stories portal in 2021. The essays speak about important elements of feminism in the Indian context. The book exposes the male chauvinistic attitude of the society which controls women's bodies, their reproductive rights and their right to choose their life partner in order to protect religions and the caste system.

The book discusses day-to-day challenges faced by women of all ages; examines the roots and suggests appropriate solutions. Relevant aspects of feminism in the current scenario, the empathetic write-up with a subtle sense of humour, enrolling men to make them understand women's issues etc. make the book a pleasure to read. It also recommends ways to eradicate male domination in the existing family system.

E.V.R. Periyar's feminism, mothers' guilt, Women's compulsion to prove chastity every moment, A woman's income is her self-respect, Lets us get into politics ladies, Is motherhood her identity? Why female sterilization is insisted for birth control and not vasectomy... are some of the topics covered in the book.
