About the book
This collection of ten short stories is about schoolgirls in Tamil Nadu. The state’s public education system has made it one of the most educated states in the Union. Yet a system built on rote learning offers little relief from the other problems that hamper women’s education, notably sexual abuse, child marriage and child labour. These fictionalised accounts draw on the author’s own experience as a teacher in the state schools of southern Tamil Nadu.
