About the book

This book traces the life of Santhi Shanmugam, from Coimbatore who moves in to live with her husband in the 'Gulf' - Dubai. This book breaks the 'regular' view one has of Dubai - a shopping haven and tourist destination. This is about how a woman who is uprooted from her homeland finds a new life in Dubai, exploring food, customs, travel, climate and living as an ex-pat in an alien land. The instances in Santhi's life are narrated with a generous dose of humour, culturally sensitive comments and political observations. A feel-good book that has been written to quell her thirst for communication. She says she has written this book as if she would converse with an unknown woman friend. Foreword given by Dubai Tamil ex-pat Asif Meeran explains clearly how the book is not overwhelming but registers the facts with honesty and ease.

About the author

Santhi Shanmugam's maiden book is Thamizh Ponnum Dubai Mannum. Born, brought up and educated in Coimbatore, West Tamil Nadu, Santhi has worked as Assistant Lecturer in a college. Her marriage and pursuant migration to Dubai form the crux of this book. She loves to read and travel.
